What is a competitor monitoring virtual assistant?
A competitor monitoring virtual assistant is a remote assistant who watches a business's competitors on a set schedule: checking prices and buy box on marketplaces, stock availability, new products and listing changes, promotions and coupons, reviews and ratings, ad creatives and website changes, and recording everything in a tracker with alerts when something moves. At AssistBPO the assistant is an employee of the group using the client's own tools and public sources, never scraping in breach of a site's terms.

KPIs are what we measure and report, agreed per engagement in the weekly review. Service-level commitments are set in your agreement, not on this page.
How does the competitor monitoring desk work?
-
Match
A 20-minute discovery call on your market, competitors, channels and the decisions the data should support. Within 72 hours we propose a named monitoring assistant with marketplace or category experience, plus a trained backup.
-
Onboard
We build the competitor list, the fields to track and the schedule for each, set up the tracker in Google Sheets or Airtable and connect any tools you already pay for, such as Keepa, Helium 10, Prisync or Visualping. Alert thresholds, repricing rules and report format are agreed and the first baseline is captured in week one.
-
Daily rhythm
The assistant works the tracking schedule: marketplace prices and stock first, then promotions, listings, reviews and ads, logging each check and sending alerts as thresholds are hit. The repricing sheet is refreshed to your rules. The end-of-day report lists what moved, alerts sent and anything needing your decision.
-
Weekly review
Twenty minutes with the team lead over the Monday report: price positions, competitor launches and promotions, review movement, repricing suggestions and which competitors to add or drop. Monthly, the team lead spot-checks tracker entries against source on the QA scorecard.
Hours, coverage and models
AssistBPO staffs the competitor monitoring desk on 3 models. US Eastern to Pacific, UK and Canadian business hours from the group's two offices; Australian Eastern shifts available on request. Early checks before your day starts are standard for daily price tracking.
- Dedicated monitoring assistant, 80 or 160 hours a month
- Shared e-commerce pod, 20 or 40 hours a month for weekly checks and reports
- Project block for a category benchmark or launch-week watch

These are rate-card starting points. What you pay depends on the hours, the desk and the coverage window, which is what the staffing plan sets. Rates improve as you add assistants. Your staffing plan states the rate for the number of seats you need. The rate card carries the other currencies, the add-ons and the six things that move a plan off it.
How much does competitor monitoring cost?
Plans start at $400 a month for 40 hours, at $10 an hour, and rates improve as you add assistants. Get a staffing plan within 1 business day.
What moves the plan
- Hours a week and whether the desk is dedicated or shared
- Phones: live answering needs a receptionist profile and a backup
- Coverage zone: business hours, after-hours, weekends or 24/7
- Tools and access to set up
- One person or a pod with a lead

Frequently asked questions
How much does a competitor monitoring virtual assistant cost?
Plans depend on hours, desks and coverage. Get a staffing plan within 1 business day. For orientation, PayScale lists US virtual assistants at $19.45 an hour on average, Indeed at $27.15, and managed offshore providers publish $7 to $15 an hour (Wishup 2026 Industry Report; Cherry Assistant cost guide). AssistBPO prices a dedicated assistant per person for a block of hours; monitoring tools you choose are billed to your own accounts.
Is this the same as a repricing tool?
No, and the two work together. A repricer changes your prices automatically to rules. The assistant gathers the wider picture a tool misses: promotions, bundles, new listings, stock gaps, review movement, ad messaging and website changes, and prepares repricing suggestions to your floors. If you use a repricer, the assistant checks its behavior and feeds it better rules.
Which tools and sources do you use?
Marketplace pages, Keepa, Helium 10, Jungle Scout, Prisync, Visualping, Google Alerts, Meta and Google ad libraries, review sites and competitor stores and pricing pages, plus your own Seller Central and store analytics. Tools are licensed under your accounts. We only use public sources and never log in to a competitor's systems or scrape against a site's terms.
How often are competitors checked?
To the schedule we agree per item: daily for marketplace prices and stock on your top products, weekly for promotions, listings and reviews, monthly for websites and pricing pages. A launch-week or sale-week watch can move everything to daily for a short period. Every check is logged with a date so you can see the history.
What triggers an alert?
Thresholds you set at onboarding: a price drop beyond a percentage, a competitor going out of stock or coming back, losing or winning the buy box, a new product or variation, a coupon or Lightning Deal, a review spike or a one-star cluster, or a change on a pricing page. Alerts go by Slack or email the same day with the evidence.
Can you monitor MAP compliance and unauthorized sellers?
Yes. For your own products, the assistant checks marketplace and retailer prices against your MAP policy, logs violations with screenshots and dates, and lists new sellers on your listings. Enforcement, such as contacting the seller or filing a complaint, stays with you or your legal team, with the evidence pack ready.
What is in the weekly report?
Your price position by product against each competitor, changes since last week, stock and buy box notes, new products and promotions spotted, review movement, ad and messaging observations, MAP flags and a short list of suggested actions. Charts come from the tracker so you can drill into any product.
Does this work outside e-commerce?
Yes. For SaaS the assistant tracks pricing pages, feature releases, job postings, review sites and ad copy; for local businesses, competitor offers, Google Business Profile changes and reviews across your area; for agencies, client competitor watches to your template. The method is the same: a list, a schedule, a tracker, alerts and a weekly report.
