What is a drip campaign?

What is a drip campaign? A drip campaign is a pre-written series of emails or messages sent automatically over time, triggered by an action such as signing up, downloading a guide or requesting a quote. Each message is spaced by a set delay and moves the recipient toward one goal, such as booking a call or completing a purchase, while they remain opted in.

How does a drip campaign work?

  1. Pick one trigger and one goal, for example a quote request that should become a booked consultation.
  2. Write five to seven short messages that each answer one objection or share one proof point.
  3. Set the delays: day 0, day 2, day 5, day 9 and so on, with sending limited to business hours.
  4. Add exit rules so anyone who books, buys or replies leaves the sequence immediately.
  5. Review replies and unsubscribes weekly and rewrite the step where people drop off.

A worked example

A residential solar installer collected quote requests from its website but only followed up once by phone. An assistant built a seven-step drip in HubSpot: a thank-you with the next steps on day 0, a short explainer on incentives on day 2, a customer story on day 5, a financing note on day 8, and three spaced reminders offering a site visit. Anyone who booked left the sequence. The sales team began each morning with a list of people who had opened the financing email twice, which turned out to be the best moment to call.

Where does a drip campaign show up in your tools?

Drip campaigns are built as workflows in HubSpot and ActiveCampaign, as flows in Klaviyo, as automations in Mailchimp, and as action plans in Follow Up Boss for real estate teams. Text-message steps typically run through the CRM's SMS add-on or Twilio.

Common mistakes

  • Leaving no exit rule, so a customer who already bought keeps receiving messages asking them to buy.
  • Writing every step as a pitch, when the middle of the sequence should build trust with proof.
  • Adding a texting step without confirming the recipient consented to texts, not just to email.

Why does a drip campaign matter?

Most leads are not ready on the day they ask. A drip campaign keeps the conversation going at the pace the buyer needs without a person remembering to follow up, and it tells the sales team exactly who has warmed up and when to call.

How does AssistBPO handle a drip campaign?

Our assistants write, build and monitor drip sequences inside your CRM or email platform, and you approve every message before the sequence goes live. Where a step includes a call or text, it happens with lawful consent and do-not-call scrubbing, and replies are routed to a named person the same day. Drop-off by step is reported in the weekly review.
